our STORY
The GOLD Youth Leadership Seminar is a regional youth leadership program which draws from Central and South Texas. The seminar area includes approximately 360 schools. Targeted toward sophomore students, the seminar is designed to provide a setting of education and motivation for students who have exhibited leadership qualities in their own schools
our FOUNDATION
The GOLD Youth Leadership Seminar was formerly known as the HOBY Texas West Leadership Seminar. The Texas West Leadership Seminar was started in 1983 by Mr. Rocky Rockstroh. A few years later, Mr. Dana Gold became an integral part of the seminar’s planning and execution. Upon Rocky’s passing, Dana Gold stepped in as the seminar chairman. The first seminar had 96 sophomore students attending and was held at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
In 2003 the volunteer corporate board voted to change the name to the GOLD Youth Leadership Seminar in honor of Mr. Dana Gold who passed away in August 2002. Simply put, the seminar would not be what it is today without Dana Gold’s dedication and commitment to hold one of the best youth leadership seminars in the state of Texas for the 20 years he was involved with the program. The acronym GOLD appropriately stands for Giving Opportunities for Leadership Development.

our LEADERS
“This seminar has changed me in that I am more open to others’ ideas and it taught me to listen more. I learned a lot about other people and their backgrounds. It made me realize that there is life beyond Sinton, Texas.”
Allyssa Kelley Sinton High School
Amanda Hapney Holmes High School
“I’ve learned that there are other kids my age that actually care about where they are going in life. I’m not alone in my dedication and determination.”
Brady Spenrath Three Rivers High School
“I would say that this seminar is the best method possible for learning leadership and social skills in under a week for Texas students. I would most definitely suggest it to all my sophomore friends.”
Kristan Hibron Providence High School
“It gave me more confidence to believe in myself and my ideas. One presentation really made me feel it was okay to fail and not be perfect just as long as you keep trying.”
